Hi folks. I have long since struggled with obtaining decent full-coin shots of my small cents since I started collect about 3 years ago. So today, I thought I'd mess around and see what I can do. I didn't want to buy an expensive setup and camera (I'm on a limited budget) so I thought I'd try to find a cheaper solution. So lo and behold, I did. I achieved the photos I got using 2 magnifying lenses I found laying around, a Pentax P70 small point-and-shoot camera, and a little bit of basic cropping in a computer program. The whole process starting from setting up the lenses to the finished product is probably 2-3 minutes tops, which is great because I currently, don't have the patience for fancy background photoshops. These pictures are far from perfect (I'm working on cutting the glare down, especially on the proofs), but let me know how they look. Thanks, Simon
Looks like you have nice even lighting and good focus. I would tweak the white balance in post-processing to get rid of that yellowish tint.
I picked up two of those myself. I've got to find a makeshift softbox for mine since I get too much glare too. Sometimes I can shift the light almost over the top of the coin and it will give me a good photo.
They look pretty good. I do want to ask though, are you taking these with the coin in some kind of holder? like a 2x2 flip?
No, they are not in any type of holder when I photograph them. If you are referring to the way the rims look, I am using a very basic photo editor so my cropping ability is not perfect yet.
