There are 4 different design varieites for the 2005 Terry Fox Loonie. Does anyone have pics of these? I am having a VERY hard time noting the differences on these. I have read all the info on the web and I have seen a pic or 2 but none of them really show the differences. Any help?
This site has pics of the varities: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-articles.php?article=terry-fox-dollar-varieties&id=87
Yes they do, that is where I learned of the different varities. The pics are not the easiest to distinguish the differences. I had my husband help me out and he niether could note all the differences.
There are blank spots before and after each of the legs which some consider varieties. Personally, I find them too minor to consider but I've seen them up for sale at a couple of shows and, I agree, they are very difficult to distinguish.
I personally don't really care or care to collect loons per se, I had just stumbled across the article and decided to muse over the slight differences. Those pictures are horrible examples, most of them, and I was hoping, only for education purposes someone here might have better examples.
The site that I posted is the only one I've seen with pics. Even on the other forums, they use it for reference. I understand one of the price guides shows two of the varieties, but I don't have it in my library. Maybe one of the other members can check their guides and post pics. Sorry, I can't help.
I know, I have searched as well. I thank you for your help. Who knows...one day when I've forgotten about it, someone here will read this thread and say "Hi, here are pics of my Terry Fox Loonies" lol I have a customer who I have been saving all my Terry Fox loons for, maybe if I ask him, he'll let me scrutinize his collection, maybe he might have some of the variances. Thank you anyway.
OK, so I now have scanned pics of 17 different Terry F ox Loons. I will post them, as many as I can in one post. It seems, by my scans, that the 32% of uncommon TF Loons have arrived through my s tore, ( that is how he collected them, I saved them for him). So, here it goes, and I hope to hear from you about the different varities...
Thats all of them. I knowmaybe I shouldn't have hogged this thread with my pics (sorry) just want opinions. I'm new, unsure and only want to know.
From the descriptions I'd say most likely these "varieties" are just examples of worn dies at various stages of wear and/or polishing.
Ummm, yes maybe no. If you check out http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-articles.php?article=terry-fox-dollar-varieties&id=87 it has a write up on the different varieties. It also shows the pics on the web for the 4 different varities. Problem is the pics on there are not spectatular. So to a newbie and very green eye, it is difficult to distinguish. Hence, I knew one of my customers had many of these, because I gave them to him. He allowed me to borrow for a night to observe them and see what the different varities looked like, (he doesn't know himself, he just knows there are 2 different types) I know one thing, I think I did notice a die crack in one of them. (please correct me if my little knowledge is wrong lol )
