Gosh, this coin was only 100 years old when I bought it. Now it's over 150.
    1870_3c.jpg Still in dealer's 2x2.

Yes. A lot to spend using lawn mowing money. Funny, an inflation calculator says $3.75 is roughly $30 today, which is exactly the NGC price guide. So I broke even.

Cool. Didn't know you were that old. :p Lawn mowing sure has changed...;)
What's also strange is that I paid $30 for mine less than 10 years ago. I don't know what grade it is? I liked it because it's 100 years before I was born.

I have one or two 3-centers in my collection. I always wanted one of the scarcer dates and this 1870 seemed quite nice.

Here is mine (1872). Don't know if this is a planchet defect, or a lamination, or a lamination with a clip.

Here is an 1851-O Silver Three Cent Piece. I have always been partial to these.

I cracked this one out of the ANACS slab and removed most of the glue residue with acetone. Full 180 degree rotated dies as well.

i didn't know I was that old either. It was the most I spent on a coin during that era I think. Franklin's in BU were $1.50. Earned $5 for mowing acre-sized lawns. Lotta sweat went into that purchase. I also bought mine because it was over 100 years old, and I thought it was so cool - a three cent coin? Crazy!

Yes, it’s NGC graded MS-63. I bought it raw many years ago from JJ Teaparty, when it was in Boston, from the late Bruce Longyear.
