Winner Announced in Post 1 I would like to see the very worst coin in your collection slabbed or not. The worst overall coin wins a Red Book Guide to Modern Proof Sets signed by David Lange. Coin type must be recognizable. Dates and mintmarks not necessary. Get those pics up!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all who participated in the contest and good luck to whoever starts the next. Six coins entered and one emerged as the winner. The entries were: 1. Asphalt Buffalo Nickel 2. 1861 Slick Seated Half 3. 1803 Corroded and Cleaned Large Cent 4. 1987 American Silver Eagle Pocket Piece 5. 1917 Canadian Dime 6. 2002 Tennessee Ditchwater Quarter And the winner is .................... bzcollektor!!!!! He submitted entry number 4. It is by far the worst ASE I have ever seen. Most are in MS69 or 70 holders and raw ones are usually MS65 or better. The other entries were truly terrible coins but none stood out as much as this ASE. Congratulations to BZ. PM me your name and address so I can get your prize out to you. Once again thanks to all who participated. Let the debating begin.
Post only once to be fair and only old damage. No intentional damage just to win. Must be a whole coin. Old holed coins are fine. Numismatic value will not bear in my decision.
Arrgh! My digital camera just died - and it isn't just a dead battery. Oh well, the scanner will have to do. Here is a buffalo nickel I dug out of asphalt from some long forgotten road probably 30+ years ago.
here's mine, no damage, just honest wear...to the point that nothing's left! It's an 1861 Seated half.
Well this will have to do... Its an 1803 LG Cent Sheldon 258 (I think the number is right) I only keep it for 3 reasons... Its the oldest US coin that I own...yet...ny oldest is an 1792 world coin. I don't think I could get out of it what I put into it... and I think its neat... Speedy
This 1917 silver Canadian dime (KM#23) is the most worn coin I have that is fully recognizable. Even though the "19" in the date is completely gone, George V is a tipoff as to the century.
It is a pocket-piece. I retired it last year before the date went away. You must admit, it is the worst looking Eagle you have ever seen. I do have a bent, gouged 1813 Bust half that technically is in worse shape than the Eagle. I just thought the Eagle would be more interesting to post.
