I seem to be having trouble posting this in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section. It keeps telling that I don't have permission to create a thread there.

My question is this. Can someone give me a crash course in the terms and abbreviations that are used in coin collecting. As you will see in my introduction, I'm getting into collecting and know nothing about it. If not a crash course, a web site that would have a list of terms I can print out. I need this info until I have the opportunity to get back to Lubbock and pick up a price guide. I'm sure it will have the info I need there.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If you haven't given it a look already, there's the numismatic acronym thread in the FAQ section, found here: http://www.cointalk.com/t1559/

I also found this page to be helpful in defining many terms, though it is pretty long and can be difficult to take in all at once: http://www.coin-collecting-guide-for-beginners.com/coin-collecting-terms.html

There are probably some things that aren't covered by either list, so if there is a term you can't find, I'm sure someone would be happy to help out if you ask here.

I also recently started collecting, and one thing I've often heard is "Buy the book before the coin." The more information you can gather, the better! I found Coin Collecting for Dummies to be quite informative and easy to understand, and I highly recommend it.

Thank you for the help. I will definitely check those links out as well as the but you mentioned. Going to Lubbock on Saturday to do some more Christmas shopping so the book store will make it on the list of places we have to go to.
