My mother gave me a buckle that had an 1880 o morgan dollar on it. I had it in my drawer and just found it the other day and discovered that it had detached itself from the buckle. On the back it has the epoxy that held it in place. Is there anything that will take it off safely or should I just leave it there. The coin looks to be in an AU condition.

Howdy meBtaz - Welcome to the Forum !!

Since the coin has been used as jewelry any numismatic value it may have had is gone. My suggestion would be to place it back in the belt buckle.

I have three of them in money clips. I have one that is still in the original packaging. I have been told the same thing as GDJMSP has told you. Mine don't even have any glue on them.

Some one gave me a bolo tie with a Morgan on it. It's not as bad off as yours, since it only has a trio of rim nicks where it is clamped into a bezel instead of a huge glob of unremovable epoxy, but it's still been converted to exonumia, and can never go home to being numismatica. :(

The only exception that I give is only when the coin itself is rare, uncommon or expensive in the first place. Otherwise, if it is common, why would one bother getting coins that have been damaged when you can get a decent one for a price you can afford?
