Talking to coin dealers

    Just starting to really get serious into what i am collecting what is best advice when talking to dealers about buying coins that are certified or sending coins to get certified

    Not really sure what you are asking here, can you be more specific ?

    I mean talking to dealers about buying a coin is just talking to them either way, it doesn't have anything to do with whether the coin is slabbed or not. I say that because you should trust the dealer or not bother talking to him to begin with. Or maybe I need to say that a different way - only talk to dealers that you already trust.

    So how do you do that without talking to them ? Easy, you get references from other people you trust. And then build on that.

    As for sending coins in to get them graded, by all means get opinions. But if you don't trust the person giving that opinion, then the opinion is worthless.

    I am not sure about the previous answer, not saying it was the wrong answer, just I think the OP meant how do you approach your local dealers or coin show dealers when the subject of certified coins comes up. I would say to educate yourself first, more often than not a dealer who begins a conversation with you and sees that you have at least the basic numismatic knowledge will probably less likely to take advantage of you. I may be completely wrong, but this JMHO. :smuggrin:
