He sold this collection last month in a Buy It Now sale after listing it numerous times. Evidently the deal fell through. I think he uses it as a promotional device, but in any instance, it's certainly a conversation starter. Worse, for this Morgan-lover, it's a heart-breaker and makes me green with envy! :(

I wonder why these aren't being sold at a real time auction. I doubt very seriously that these will be sold on ebay as a set. He is probably just throwing it out there to get a feel. Does anyone have an idea or a guess what these sets would go for approx in a real auction. i am somewhat suprised and confused why he is using this vehicle to sell this high quality set. Well, they've already been sold once on eBay (last month), but I guess the buyer backed out. I finally sat down and, using the PCGS price guide, listed the values for the MS-65s, -66s, and -67s; I have no guidelines for MS-68s and didn't want to take the time to research -68s further. But, the 11 Morgans in 65 thru 67 total $517,500. I won't hazard a guess at the three -68s since live auctions often surprise people, but the 81-CC is a top population with only two others, the 84-CC is top pop with only three others, and the 91-CC is at THE top and is unique.

The provenance must also be considered when assessing valuation. While in earlier listings of this auction he had one or two Eliasbergs, the value isn't particularly diminished by substitution of the Jack Lee PCGS Tour Morgans.

So, yes, I would think the collection would be worth a million bucks. If I had a million bucks that was just sitting around collecting dust, I'd probably buy it.

I strongly suspect he's using this auction as a promotional and advertising gimmick. It certainly caught my attention when it first came out several months ago. BTW, he's in my old Alma Mater (Cornell) town of Ithaca, NY, a hotbed of Morgan collectors and where I knew one who had several THOUSAND Morgans (this was mid-60s). It wouldn't surprise me that one or two in this auction are home-grown.

A more likely scenario is the buyer placed the bid with no intention of honoring it.

It gets weirder the more I dig into it. I saved the auction when the buyer clicked on Buy It Now on 24 December. On 29 Dec, the seller posted positive feedback in glowing terms ("Our hero!..."), yet two weeks later, it's listed again. This last auction is now ended and, previously, the auction was immediately relisted. This time, at least as of this writing, it has not been relisted. Maybe the seller figures the eBay listing fees are getting too expensive? Or, perhaps and cynically, the buyer was a shill for publicity purposes?

I don't know him personally, but Casper has a pretty good reputation in the numismatic world and I can't see him risking that by playing games. Even so - anything is possible.

Ok, did a Google search as to who Eliasberg was and the collection that he amassed. It stated "The only collection of United States coins ever formed which was complete by denomination, date and mint". Does this mean he had collected a speciam of EVERY US coin ever minted?? That is amazing !!

You just aint whistlin Dixie !! The Eliasberg pedigree on the slab often results in the coins bringing 3x - 5x book value for the coins as well ;)

This set has been on ebay so many times. I think I first saw it about a year ago. I think in total I've seen it on ebay 5 or 6 times...but I can't be sure. I don't look for stuff on ebay, every time I've seen it was because I read about it on a forum, etc.

I would think that if you want to move a high end dollar set as that, then you would seek a professional dealer or a high end auction to move something as sweet as that CC Morgan set.

    Maybe if I polish my CC's I would have O like that.Eh

Please, please, please tell me you're kidding... you ARE kidding, right? You wouldn't polish a beautiful lady, now, would you?

He could sell these at a live auction with no prob. Casper is a pro dealer who, I think, is using the set for promotional purposes and a little almost-free publicity. Interestingly, he sold this collection last month, both the buyer and the seller posted glowing positive feedbacks, and then he relisted the auction. Go figure. This auction is now closed and, until now with previous no-bids, he's relisted it immediately. But, it only ended two days ago, so he may be waiting for something. No doubt about it, this auction sure stirs up a lot of conversation.

Yes, That is EXACTLY what it means!! (Talk about "my hero!")

Not only was the collection "complete," but it was a collection of many of the finest pieces known for each date/mint!
