I think I've talked myself out of the rare 1885 Seated Quarter (old cleaning) and the 1827 Capped Bust Half (cleaning/color). Any other feedback would be awesome.
The thing that concerns me about 1823/2 is the hit above the head, I don't think it could CAC with that.
Who knows what will catch the CAC staff’s fancy at any given moment? I sure don’t. But if the presence of a sticker would net you at least $30 extra on each of the coins, then go for it, I guess...
In that case, I don't think the '27 half would/should sticker...in fact, I'm not too sure it belongs in a straight graded slab. The wipe marks don't bother me, but I don't like the color of it.
I’m looking at a bigger screen now. I would not send the 1873 dime and the 1827 half. I am iffy on the 1823 dime and the 1885 quarter. The others seem sticker-worthy
@C-B-D ..... It is us that should be asking YOU this question. If I was questioning the relevance of submitting one of my coins, you are the guy I would quiz about it..... Just keep your puppy away from the package is all....
If you're on the fence about submitting a coin to CAC, and you've had a lot of time with the coin, just imagine what their opinion will be with only a quick look? Honestly, coins you're on the fence about you should all pass on submitting. Maybe in a month give them another look and see how you feel.
I agree with the hit on the 1823/22 not being a viable CAC candidate. Your judgment usually beats mine so I won’t try to talk you out of the other two. As far as the others go...
Including the hit above the head, the 1823/2 obverse appears to grade 5 or 10 points less than the reverse in arriving at the shown grade. The obverse is generally the more important for grading and value. Agree with CoinBlazer that this is not a good candidate. With the exception of the cleaned coins cited, the others appear to be reasonable coins to send to CAC imo.
Sleep on it. I think you know which ones might sticker and which are more iffy. Keep back the ones that are more iffy unless the chance they did sticker would be worth a price difference that really counted. Not saying you should leave money on the table but weigh it against possibly spinning the wheel on all of these and maybe only getting one or two (or none) CACed. Or keep back the ones that are more iffy and see how the others do. You can send them in later if you have the time to hold them a bit longer. Because you can see them in hand.
If you're asking us to talk you out if it then why are you considering it at all? It tells me you have doubts. Go with your feelings, not ours as they are your coins.
