I acquired this coin a while ago and am now taking another god look at it. Tell me why you think it is either genuine or altered. Simply "guessing" without saying why will be considered a worthless, pointless guess. (I know it was cleaned improperly, so no need to mention that; I want the focus to be its authenticity.) I want to know WHY you think so in an articulate way. 1943 Lincoln cent struck over a Mercury dime (date indeterminable) double denomination.
1943 Lincoln Cent--Overstruck on a 1943 Mercury Dime--MS-62 (NGC). This intriguing and rare double denomination error is ranked No. 39 in the popular reference 100 Greatest U.S. Error Coins by Nicholas P.
The dime is definitely genuine. My issue is the strike from the cent dies. I don't think this edge photo is going to help to determine a genuine strike for the Lincoln cent.
You asked if it could be genuine. I just showed you it can be. I’m not here to be tested and mind games of what is or not. People voice their opinions as in whether a Lincoln is a Woodie? If your mercury is legit, that is awesome! In my opinion of the woodie, in my opinion, I have one. Some may agree and some may not. Your dime is nice!
I do not doubt it’s legit. With technology today, things can be done. Just now, I did a trick! But no way someone can post the third side. A fair question of course. I think anyway. No way I can post a third. Can do a rev if I were to do the same as this one. Everyone always wants the third image or other images, does not mean we doubt someone.
Anyone can post the third side (edge) if requested. If the edge has details like reeding, then the collar die produces that as the third die in the process.
you're not out of line. but i also want it on record here that your coin isn't a woody. it does have a slight lamination, but the lines are from dirty rollers.
Yes I know as well! That’s the image that should be shown. I’m not trying to be out of line, just was showing you that I knew it was legit. It’s a beautiful coin.
I am really divided over this. It could be a very clever manipulation. On the other hand, lookin at EPU and the distorted missing rim, and the area opposite it on the cent obverse where the strike pressure would be affected, the dime details are very feint. I am going to wait for the reveal if there is one, sorry.
So the alignment in the original pictures is wrong. Thanks for getting around to mentioning that as one would assume it was just flipped over.
