Ok, how does this happen please?

I was quietly admiring my 4 daler plate when I noticed that one of the 4 corner stamps was doubled. I thought these were struck with a hammer?

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Have you ever hit a nail with a hammer, and the hammer bounced a bit?

Now, imagine you have a very large hammer and instead of a nail you have a die. Hit that die with your big hammer, and I'll bet there's a good chance it bounces a bit. Now, that die just bounced on that soft copper sheet... boom. Double image.
