How do dimes end up in old penny rolls? Are they just jammed in the end to help sell? And how do I know know that those rolls are "unsearched"? Any tipps for avoiding a fleecing?

Hi, I am sure that many on here will tell you, and it is true, that the rolls are not actually un-searched. the dimes (etc.) are put there to help them sell. They are known as lure rolls. Avoid them, unless they are cheap, you will be getting a vast majority of 40's and 50's cents in the rolls.

I presume you are talking about fleaBay - those are made up rolls. I find dimes in CWR cents all the time - usually dark dimes, but even normal coloured ones.

you can buy a little tool to crimp the end of a roll like the bank does for $4. It is very easy to make them up.
if you want the penny roll, buy it for that, don't pay any premium. Most of these rolls were sham, made up by someone. Maybe not the person selling them, thus they advertize "un-searched". well, maybe not searched by them anyway. But they are NOT un-searched.

People on ebay "seed" rolls, usually ones that claim to have "unsearched wheat pennies". They will put everything from a Seated Liberty dime to an ancient coin at the end, which begs the question...how do they know it is a full roll of wheats, then?

"Unsearched Rolls" are the biggest coin scam on eBay IMO.
