I have a susan b anthony that is silver on one side and gold on the other. Is this a misprint? is this rare? Please let me know if anybody can help me out. Thank You Lisa
Hi Lisa and welcome to the forum. You probably have a coin which has been artificially altered by partially gold plating it or otherwise coloring one side; but you may have a coin which has tarnished* on only one side, perhaps from being stored for a long time on some type of surface which chemically reacted with the copper-nickle coin metal. That type of tarnish is unlikely to affect the high and low parts of a design evenly, which is why I lean toward the plating/colorizing theory. *Yes, I know the Politically Correct term is "toned", but when metal is discolored by chemical reaction with something else, that's tarnish in every dictionery I own.
That will require examination of the coin by either a coin dealer, or a chemist/chemical engineer, or someone else with the requisite knowledge. Sorry, but I don't believe it can be done by examining a photo.
