Superman medal

Kind of surprised nobody was talking about this yet, so I guess I'll start the topic.

Any thoughts on the Superman medals? My thoughts are basically, love the design, no complaints there; but $135 feels like a lot to pay for about $40 worth of silver, even one with a great design.

Most of the debates I've seen anywhere about this medal are mostly from Superman/DC/comic fans rather than coin collectors. The few discussions I've seen from the latter are typically: 1. Why a fictional character like Superman; 2. Costs too much, or 3. I like it, I want it, I'll buy it. I agree with #2 kind of, yeah it's too much, but well... kind of par for the course with US Mint products these days, if I want it bad enough I'll begrudgingly fork out the dough. #1 well, American pop culture is part of American history too, so why not. #3 Yes I like it, I want it... but I'm still at "maybe" for whether I'll buy it.

Just wonder if anyone else had any thoughts on this. I'm seriously thinking about it, I'm not completely immune to FOMO lol... but the price feels a little steep and not sure if I want it bad enough to fork out that much for it. But I'm kind of still on the fence atm.

I think it'll sell well. I wish it were a coin, not a medal. Is it just me, or the mint seem to be making a lot more of those? I personally don't have an interest in the subject matter, but if I did, I would be hard pressed to shell out that kind of money. Possibly if it were a 2 ounce version.

I'll say, there are some medals recently I've really enjoyed the look of. I really like the American liberty medal this year with the sunflower on it. I've seen a video of the gold version and it's really nice.

Much like many of the medals of the past, you might be able to get one in the secondary in a year or two at a more favorable price.

There is indeed a 2 1/2 oz. silver version... it's $275 though for about $100 worth of silver.

There's also a gold version... $2710 for 1/2 an oz. of gold which is worth about $1700 right now (this is proportionately a better deal than the silver ones).

Because I'm just that much of a math nerd lol:
Premium above melt is about 250% for the 1 oz silver, about 180% for the 2.5 oz silver, and and about 60% for the 1/2 oz gold.

Bloody hate it. The US mint has finally turned the corner and rounded the bend regarding cartoonish depictions stamped on coins to collect a premium of excessive proportions in comparison to metals value. If I were a woman I'd cry rape........

The Mint should have better things to do than promote a movie. Maybe the absurd price includes that promotional consideration. Hmmm? Purchasing just encourages them to do this again.
