Wish I knew in advance about the show CEO, it's not a bad drive for me. Unfortunately, I have other things to take care of. Maybe next time.

There are just no shows in NYC. The closest are in Connecticut. I don't understand it.

I'm guessing the cost is too much for the space in NYC. Wish I could've went to the show in NJ but I have to work on weekends.

No Brooklyn? No Queens? Do you know how much empty space in in this city on weekend?

NYINC An annual coin show held in NYC in January.

You even have a thread on such a show, in NY, on a Sunday!!! --> NY Show results
Don't forget the Baltimore Whitman Expo. That show isn't too far away, in terms of distance nor days from now, it's held in June.

$$$ Venues in NYC are expensive! $$$ Retail space is expensive in the city too, and for the same reason, you just don't see many B&M coin shops. Sure we have Stacks (Bowers) and a newer addition, the Heritage Auctions gallery in midtown, but those are high(er) end dealers above many average collectors budgets. Retail numismatics is a tough business to be profitable at most anywhere, but such a place as NYC, with the high commercial rents is more of a challenge, especially when competing with low overhead e-retailers and auction sites.

Think about how much collectors balk on these forums about the slightest expenses related to coin collecting... Do you think they will be willing to pay hotel rates, high prices for travel, high parking rates if they drive in to the city, finding a need to pay for taxis, or learning to navigate the dungeon of an ancient usually broken subway system, the added high costs for dining out and any other entertainment related expenses, on top of their concerns for their collecting budgets?

Simply, there are cheaper towns like Baltimore or Pittsburgh and small towns in New England, that is as far as the East and big(er) coin shows go.

I'd say we are lucky to have any expo/convention sized shows in other larger US cities (Chicago, Boston, et al.) given the average make-up of the numismatic scene, their budgets and the general adversity to our urban centers.

Have you ever thought of starting your own coin club in the the city... Hosting a coin show and organizing the event to bring in dealers...

Let us know when you get it together!
    ;)
