I have to send a coin in to PCGS so they can CORRECT the information on it and in their database. Since I am not a member, they have sent me a form to complete and I can submit it.

The mistake is when I look up the number it shows its a different dated morgan. I bought this coin from HA.

My question is, what is the best way to handle this? The coin is a morgan MS65 worth @$220. I am nervous, but I do at home have bubble wrap and stuff.

    Any help is appreciated.

is the information on the slab itself correct??? it sounds like the error is just in their database... if so, why the need to send the coin in to them?

I would think PCGS would want to check the coin and the slab out before they change their info, just to make sure it's not a counterfeit or a tampered with slab.

Wrap it as best you can, insure it and ship it. Not really hard, but it is nerve-wracking to do this and trust the USPS to handle it. I have only done a few submissions, but it has worked without issues.

I'd suround the slab with either cardboard or bubblewrap and put it in one of the yellow packages they make for sending , you can buy them at Walgreens or the Post office and send it insured with confirmation they recieved it .

I think the most important thing is what shipping service you use. Did PCGS request you send it any specific way? If they didn't, I would suggest USPS First class mail with insurance and signature conformation. It should only cost about $6, and you will have proof when the package arrived, and who signed for it, plus it's insured.

I would send it in a box, registered mail.

it'll go out 1st class registered mail... it just makes me nervous... b ut I also have a number of BU Morgans that I wouldn't mind shipping in. Any one use their Membership services (which appears to be the only way to submit something)

They also said due to their mistake they would send me a free submission certificate or something to that effect.

I too was hoping it was something clerical they could change on the computer without seeing it, but I think they not only want to verify that it wasn't tampered with but also make sure I wasn't telling them one thing and they are changing someone elses' records!

It's only good business practices that save you and them from any cons , as we all know there are many low moral , con artists out there . Good luck I'm sure everything will turn out fine .

    Here's an outside possibility.
Sept 10-12 there will be a BIG show at Long Beach, CA, and PCGS will be there.
That's too far (400-500 miles?) just to turn a coin in for a free reslab (they call it a "mechanical error")
    BUT
if you combined it with taking in the coin show too with maybe an overnight stay, you might find it worthwhile.

    Just a thought.

I wouldn't. Registered mail will cost about double the price of insured, and doesn't seem necessary.
