stupid question

    i was wondering if the top grading companies grade coins that are not perfect.minor dings,black spots,discoloration.....ty

    I think it depends on the imperpections. If it is marks from normal circulation or handling and bagmarks they would be graded. It is the alterations, cleaning, heavy scratches and damage they bodybag or lable as details grades.
    There are others more familiar with grading standards that will hopefull answer the question better.

    The only item TPGs don't grade, to my recollection, are counterfeits.

    Sometimes if the damge isn't too bad, or if the coin is valuable even though it has damage, NGC will give it a details grade and PCGS will mark it genuine.
