Stupid Question about Collecting Kennedy Halves

OK, I have decided that I want to assemble a nice BU set of Kennedy Halves (including the Proofs). I think this will be a goods set to work on to get back into collecting because it should be relatively easy to do and fairly inexpensive (being a college student, lack of funds is an issue).

Anyway, here comes the dumb question. I want to house the set in a Dansco album. I have noticed that the new albums they are selling have slots for 1964-2007-D. So, it sounds like there won't be room for the 2007 proofs in that book. Do you guys think it is best for me to hold off and buy the album for the coins next year once the 2007 Proof sets are released. I figure Dansco will have to reconfigure there Kennedy album (which might mean making it 2 volumes) and if that is the case I should probably wait until then to buy the books. I probably seem a little odd for wondering such a thing, but I don't want to buy an album for $20 now and next year see them add a page to it.

I suppose the easiest thing to do would be to buy the album and next year buy a blank page (or update page) and add to it. Does anyone have the Kennedy with Proofs Dansco album (8166)? Will an additional page fit in it?

    Thanks!!!

Yup, extra blank pages do fit and can relatively easily be inserted. Whatever you do, good luck and have fun with the Kennedies. Great choice for a set.

Richie, it sounds as if you have already thought of all the angles. Pick the one that you want and go for it!
Should make up into a very nice set. Good luck and happy collecting.

I have almost an entire set of Kennedys completed for my 7 year old son. It has been a lot of fun going to the bank with him and getting a few rolls at a time to dig through. He would ask me almost every day if we could go get more. I think we need like 5 proofs and we will be done. Not only has this set been done pretty much for face value, but the time spent with my boy learning about coins has been priceless. I can't wait to finally have this set complete, it was a team effort.

Most Whitman and Dansco albums provide slots for the circulation issues, and sometimes include well-known varieties (think 1906D VDB cents, 1960 large and small date cents, etc.), but don't provide space for proofs because the vast majority of collectors who use those albums are out-of-circulation guys, who don't see, or want, proofs in their sets.

From my experience,Dansco offers the albums in both mint and proof/mint.The Kennedy albums go for $16.41 and $22.02 on this site(30% discount).I've also found that you can easily add 1 updated page without causing the album to bulge out.So far, they only have through 2007 in the updated pages section near the bottom.

My biggest concern was when I added a in a page in a year or so it would bulge out. It sounds like thats not an issue so what I'm going to do is buy the album now (Kennedy with Proofs) and then add a page when it becomes necessary. Thanks for the input everyone!!!
