Found these two coins yesterday. coin one is a 1982 no FG: This next coin looks like a struck through error. The bottom half of the eagle is flat and there is what looks like a chunk out of the left by the wing. Here are picks....Opinions please:
It looks like struck thru, but the pics are too small. It could just be very worn and damaged. You could look at it through a microscope and see if there are tool marks or if the metal surface of the coin flows through the missing area as if it happened during the strike.
I don't have a microscope, and wouldn't know what it would look like if the "coin flows through the missing areas as if it happened during the strike." I'm just one step above a rookie on such error coins. The smoothness of the bottom half of the eagle caught my attention, especially since the rest of the coin seems to not have that kind of ware. The pic of the missing piece blows up when you click on it, and I'm afraid I can't get it any closer since it is taken through my 10x loupe already....
The first coin doesn't look like a struck thru. Usually it won't take out all the detail such as the star. The other looks like a struck thru. Of course this is just my opinion.
The first one is a NO FG error....not a strike through. This is a known error for a 1982 Kennedy half. My questions are on the 2nd coin. thanks.
Actually I can see the faint 'G' and 'F' if zoomed in on it. Of course if I look long enough I'll see an elephant there also.
I see it the F to when you could make out some of the intials it really isn't considered a Missing Fg they vary in price when just a little of the Fg is showing less money where as the ones with all the intials missing are worth more of a premium. Frankie Boy
The second coin is a struck through grease error as far as the star being missing. I can't be as sure as I would like to be on the rest of the coin. It looks more like wear. Thanks, Bill
