I recently purchased a box of pennies at an estate sale and found this 1918-D that appears to be struck thru cloth or some other item at the mint. Any ideas?
I'm not sure what you have, but it does not look like a genuine cloth-struck coin. This is what it should look like:
I think your coin is this, https://www.error-ref.com/improper-alloy-mix/ and not a Struck Through. Lamination errors are often found on/with an improper alloy mix coin.
