Struck Through?

    This is minor and merely academic, but when I first saw this I thought it was a contact mark(under the W) since it's incuse and looks just like a nick. I've since found 3 from this roll that came from the same die and all have the exact same incuse mark.

    It's doubtful that it is a strikethrough since most are usually a one-time occurrence. It's possible that the hub was damaged (gouged) and transferred that damage to the die in the form of a raised mark. That would then be transferred to the planchet as an incuse mark.

    I wondered about that too. The only way I thought it might be strike through is that I've seen miniscule copper shavings grafted(if you will) to the surface of coins, so I thought such small shavings might also stick to the surface of a die.
