I've just started hunting for errors and thought I might post a few pics here. I think this is a what y'all call struck through, but I'm curious as to what was struck. Looks like cheesecloth to me. I have a few more that I'd like to post later.

Howdy rollinoffset - Welcome to the Forum !!

At first glance I was ready to say it looks like a retained strike-through error. But then I looked a little closer, and looked at the date on the coin. Then I looked at the amount of wear on the coin. This made me second guess myself.

Given the above - I have to wonder why, with that much wear over the past 25 yrs, that material (whatever it is) would still be there if it was a retained strike through.

So I'm wondering if it's not something that got stuck to the coin more recently

    thanks for the info

When viewed with my lens it sure looks like the field is indented, but I only have a 5x so I may just be seeing things. The color and the fact that the motto isn't imprinted made me wonder though. Thanks for the info.

You have the coin in hand - I can only look at pictures. So if you say it is incuse - great !! That's a cool error

This appears to be a patch of dried glue. Some textured material was pressed into it when it was still tacky.

I'll feel a little foolish showing it off like that if it's glue  . But I'll take another look at it and see if I can pull it off. Thanks for all the input, us newbies to the hobby sure appriciate the guidance. That's why we come here.

You might not be able to pull it off, but acetone will usually dissolve it.

Welcome to the forums. Don't need to feel foolish about learning :) Just need to combine the following sayings:

A day where nothing was learned is a day wasted.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. ;)

This is a GREAT place to learn about coins and we all start as newbies.
