Now i know struck through grease is not a uncommon error, this nickel however was REALLY bad. DSCN3019.jpg DSCN3021.jpg DSCN3023.jpg

I only see a possible lamination error, but I am not shure, if it was struck through grease error, a letter, number or design would be missing, if you want you can email me for a photo of a STG penny

Many of the 1982 and 1983 P & D Jefferson nickels have this orange peel and mushy appearance. I think this is one reason why MS65 examples with excellent strike and good step count command high prices.
The cause has something to do with overheating , whether it is from annealing the blanks or over production and heating of the dies I am not sure but I think it definitely has something to do with metal flow during the strike.
