What does it mean to say that a coin is 'struck through'?

    Thank you, Jim

It usually means that there was some foreign object between the planchet and the dies before striking, and that the coin was "struck through" the foreign object.

Grease and other stuff are some of the usual suspects when you are looking at struck through coins. The Mint is definitely not a spic-n-span place, as these errors silently speak to! :D
