I was searching a roll of BU 2018-P Jefferson's today and found this nickel that shows extra metal blobbed up on the left side of Monticello. What exactly is this? A die break? A strike through? Is it worth keeping?

Neat. It really looks cool under a 7x loupe....all gnarly-looking.....more impressive in hand than in the pic. I could see it with the naked eye. Fun stuff. ☺️

Into a 2x2 flip with this one.

I just found another 2018-P listed on eBay that has the same die chip on the exterior left end of Monticello, but not the larger die chip found on mine that is much larger and more visible.

Clearly the eBay piece comes from an earlier die state on the same reverse die. The one I pulled from a roll yesterday obviously shows that the die continued to chip away at that end. It will be interesting to see if any later die state examples surface showing even more significant deterioration before this die was retired.

    T. Jefferson needs to get out and knock down that hornets nest before somebody gets stung
