I'm certain this cent is uncirculated. With that being said, it's safe to assume it isn't post mint damage, right? Is this strike through damage? Thanks in advance.

It is either a strike thru (sunken into surface) or it looks more like a raised lump of something on the surface. Glue tends to HELP turn Lincoln cents the color of yours.

If it is not a depression, very carefully, with a thin sliver of wood, see if it pushes off. Acetone may be needed to remove it.

It is not a raised lump, it is scratched into the surface. Oh, and no glue "helped" color this coin. It was carefully wrapped in some sort of tissue paper and placed in a paper 2x2 where it sat for almost 70 years.

Great! Collectors refer to this defect as a strike through. Neat! BTW, scratches on a coin look much different.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking. I'm kind of new to all this and trying to educate myself. ☺

I don't collect Lincoln cents, but it looks like it might have an inverted mintmark. Does anyone know for sure?

It's funny you should say that Chris. I posted another pic of same year and mm in response to someone else's question. I was wondering the same thing.

    It's just upside-down.
