There are $100 in a strap of ones. I would expect all banks to have them on hand. I've never been turned down when I've asked for them though I have been asked a few times why I wanted them.
Did you look suspicious? I have never had a problem getting packs of $1's from banks, sometimes the teller would even ask if I wanted new bills or old ones. As long as you are polite most tellers don't seem to mind.
I bank at two banks here in my San Francisco neighborhood and get straps of 1's, 2's and sometimes 5's. No questions asked and they will order them for me if they do not have UNC.'s
