Found this in my unsorted coppers. Looks like a George II halfpenny to me. It's hard to photograph well, but I'm pretty sure I can make out GEORGIVS II on the obverse, and the date of 1730 on the reverse. There's a set of parallel lines with diagonal markings on the obverse in the middle, which at first I thought were just damage, but they seem almost regular, like some sort of countermark. Any idea what they might be, or did somebody just run over this and get tire treads all over it or something equally ridiculous?
I could see that. I can't imagine why, but it would at least make sense. I thought it might be some sort of weird counterstamp or something.
I've never encountered a C/S like that. I believe it's some type of old damage Still cool. I have a couple low grade Geo II that I pulled from 25¢ junk boxes years ago
