I just got a 1971 Ike Silver Dollar 40% silver encapsulated in the original government holder with the brown box. I have all 4 of these now 1971 - 1974, the strange thing about this one is that there is a blue circle around Ikes head, if you put it under as light and tilt it appr. 30 degrees it is very prominent. I have never seen this, and ther is no sign of the packaging being tampered with. I don't think any picture would show this has anyone seen anything like this?:headbang:
.....sounds like it may be toning. but hey, just for giggles, why not try showing us some pics anyway?
Seen this a thousand times - it's toning and it is very often seen in Brown Ikes. Seen this a thousand times - it's toning and it is very often seen in Brown Ikes.
The plastic material used to package the Brown Ikes was recycled plastic and causes those Ikes to haze and tone like that. I removed all mine from that type of packaging.
I would agree, I found it ugly it looks like Ike has a blue halo all around him. Guess I will leave him in the OGP! Thanks eveybody for the answers!:eat:
It doesn't have to be toning it could be moisture got into the case and giving that apearance on the coin like a blue ghost hallo. I have some like that i don't think it's tonning what you are descriping to us.I have to say and some Look ugly and spoil the hole apperance of the coin Frankie boy from brooklyn baby
I don't consider it toning. I consider it to be hazing from material outgassed by the holder, probably due to heat while being carted around from show to show in the trunk of the dealers car. If you look at one closely out of the holder it seems to be a film that is sitting ON the surface of the coin rather than being a part of the surface.
