Hello all, I am not a coin collector and have no education on the matter. I was rolling my penny jar last week and out of the $300.00+ I came across a strange looking Roosevelt dime. It looks like it has strange lines on it like when you heat a glass of milk and then disturbe the cooled skim on top. Like the metal has been disturbed. The letters of LIBERTY look like they were stamped and then stamped again on top of the first one and kind of dragged down or shifted. The G&O in the word GOD are connected and the W&E in WE are connected and the R&U S&T in the word trust are connected by strands of the metal. The D stamp for Denver is all blobbed over and filled in. And the letter under the neck are blobbed as well. On the back the N in UNITED was not completely formed, the A in STATES was not completely formed and the A&M in AMERICA are connected and the US.UNUM was never completely indented or stamped. I have taken some photos to attach and thought it might be worth my time asking before discarding it. Thanks and have a great night ~Anna DeGrauw
looks like a double die although not really an expert at Error's im sure someone will help you out though if it is though might be few bucks worth more than face. Welcome to CT either way.
Derek, What are the indicators that led you to declare the coin a doubleD die? Which die do you think is doubleD - obverse or reverse? Or do you think both dies are doubleD?
Careful how you toss around terms. 'LIBERTY' cannot be a "double(D) die". 'LIBERTY' can be doubled on the coin but it is the die itself and the coins it strikes that are called a "doubleD die".
