I found this coin in change while in Germany about 7 years ago. Does anyone know what it is? I also have about 100 Deusche Marks that was left over is there any value at all since they switched to the euro?
I'd say from the design that this piece is from Saidi Arabia. I don't have my reference books with me, though. As for the DM, it would depend on the year and condition of the coins - any numismatic value would be based on these factors. If you mean 'monitary value', I'm not sure if you can still trade your DM in for Euros.
The German National bank still accepts old coins and bills (1948-2001). You can also legally use old D-marks in payphones!! 100 D-mark is approx. 65 US$
As Dutch68 wrote, any coin or note ever issued by the Federal Republic of Germany or its central bank can always be redeemed at face value, without any time limit. For further information see the website of the central bank: http://www.bundesbank.de/bargeld/bargeld_faq_banknotendm.en.php?print=no&#dm_umtausch Mailing the coins to Germany may get a little expensive though ;-) Christian
