I had a garage sale this weekend and happened to notice this coin in the bunch. To me, the "N" looks different... almost backwards. The word "God" is doubled, but I don't know which type. The "8" also looks strange. Some of the other letters are thick or blob-ish. (The "E" in LIBERTY, the mint mark & the rest of "WE TRUST" are especially blob-like) I didn't see anything unusual about the reverse side. Thoughts? One pic was from using the scanner, the other w/a camera. This is the best pic I was able to get of the doubling. (Through a loop)
Living in Michigan, I always find it weird when I hear of people having garage sales at times like these. Here, it's pretty much a strictly summer occurrence, with a few outliers. You have garage sales year round in Texas?
TexasMom, can we see a full picture of the dime? Do you see any other doubling or anything, anywhere else?
Ok...here's another pic of the entire front. The 9 + 8 both look like they have a little bit of doubling depending on the angle. This pic doesn't really show it, but the 8 looks kind of like a typewritten "a" if the coin is turned.
Thanks guys. So does that mean it's worth face value only? I was thinking about taking several pounds of coins down to one of the coinstar machines and am not sure whether or not to toss this one in with the others.
I'd keep it, but it's probably not worth a huge premium. Maybe a dollar or two. It seems like a lot of those 1980 dimes had strange issues.
