Came across this cent in a roll. At first I thought it was a steel cent. Then looking at it is a 1977. Not sure it was just silver plated or what. If anybody has a thought, feel free to post.
If it feels oily put it down and don't touch it again. Many coins with that "feel" have been dipped in mercury. Mercury is VERY toxic and can be absorbed through the skin. DO NOT heat the coin. If it is coated with mercury, the coating will vaporize and , if inhaled, will be even more easily absorbed through the lungs.
What he said. This looks like a really bad science project from 1977. Not so cute these days, but it does look like it had a mercury dip.
