I have a Straits Settlement "1 Cent" coin KM#16. It is probbaly a VG/Fine grade . The date on the obverse says 1897 but the Krause book only shows a 1901 .. GDJSMP can you help with this one???

FYI: A coworker gave me old box of foreign coins that his grandmother had and I'm loving looking them up in the Krause book.. My best find yet is a 1934 Panama Balboa in XF condition or better. It is great

You're looking in the wrong Krause my friend. ;)

The Standard Catalog of World Coins is in four volumes, and you only have the last one, which covers the 20th/21st Centuries. There are separate volumes for the 17th, 18th and 19th Centuries. In the 19th Century 3rd Ed. Staits Settlements is listed under Maylasia. A Fine 1897 KM#16 with or without an "H" mintmark (Heaton) is listed at $5. There is a 2005 4th Ed., but I don't have it, or know what price changes, if any, are listed.
Yup, for me the research is a lot of fun, especially all the interesting historical bits I pick up in the process.

Krause is starting to list each country separately.
For example,Belize is listed separately from British Honduras,Straits Settlements is listed separately from Malaysia,& Newfoundland is listed separately from Canada. However,Krause lists Rhodesia after Rhodesia & Nyasaland, which to me,is not good.I wish that Krause would list the coins of the South African Republic after South Africa.
