I have all my silver coins in a small safe and was wondering about sillicia gel. I want to put some silica gel into the safe to absorb any excess humidity. My question is it safe? Does anybody know if silica gel releases any vapours that could react with the metals? I do not plan on placing the silica straight on the coin. Any help would be appreciated.

I also use silica gel in my safe deposit box and I agree that it's a good idea.
I have also placed the coins in (non-pvc) plastic bags to further protect them from moisture, and the coins are wrapped in Intercept Shield sheets. I may have overdone my coin protecting a little bit :D

I have used silica gel in my safe for years with no problems that I have ever noticed, even to silver, steel, aluminum, and lead.
