Come on, let's hear your stories of great finds, unusual finds, and lucky finds. Everyone here sometimes needs a little inspiration. -Ilya
This may not be the most unusual story of all time or anything, but, about 3 months ago, I was working in the convenient store, and it started to get real busy, people in line, people on the gas pumps, I ran out of pennies, so I purchased 2 rolls, upon opening the first roll, I found that they were nearly all wheat pennies, except for about 3, the next roll was the same, needless to say, I put everything on hold, and took the wheaties out, and put the memorials back in the register while another attendant ran the register, over the next couple of days, I found over 600 wheat pennies, and about 200 or more the rest of the month. But, now I am back to finding one or two a day Don't give up on banks, you never know what will turn up in their rolls.
well my unusal find was when i was in a shop (this was on a trip in ireland) i was looking around and i dropped my hat so i bent down to get and under the fridege there was a pile of old ireland coins so i got then and put them in my pocket (there were 6 in all) and when out of the shop there was nothing special about them put i wanted to add them to my collection of forign coins, someone must of put them there because they changed to the euro so they were unwanted
I've pretty much told all my stories of inspiration already - most several times So I'll just relate a recent story that happened to another collector. It seems he ordered 3 - 2004 Proof sets from the Mint. But when he received his order - it wasn't quite what he expected. Instead of the 3 - '04 Proof sets - he received 3 - 2003 Silver Proof sets
One more story of inspiration from me that happend just recently, I purchased an NTC graded MS-64 walking liberty half ( 1941 - D ) . I inspected the coin closer, and noticed it had a RPM, which was not detailed on the NTC holder, Sent the coin off to PCGS, when it came back, it was graded MS-64 with the designation of a true and blue RPM I later went back to the dealer whom I had purchased it from, and asked him if he had noticed anything else about the coin, other than it being a beutiful specimen, he looked at the front of it, and said, it's graded MS-64, too many people out there simply look at what a certified holder might say, professional grading services make mistakes too.
About the only good thing i did was buying thatbag of US coins on ebay. $13 sold at face value! I must have pulled about 20 silver coins out of that lot! Thankfully most Washers, but there was a dateless SLQ, a few mercs, a few Roosies, a few war nickels and a half silver Kennedy. Not to mention a buff nickel. Now that was a good day!
The war nickels got shipped back to the US in trades where i paid people in face value with them (passing on some profit there), i hung onto the buff (albeit whizzed), the Washers were soon hoarded!!! There's nothing like a Silver Washer... ahhh the beauty!
Sylvester that picture you got there is just to nice for this forum your scaring us please revert back to normality before i pull out my 80s shiny suit and go pretent i realy can dance once again.I will hold you soly responsible
Well okay i'll revert back to normality... i've got Miss Moore gracing two other forums anyway... so i'll go back to a coin one!
Changed temporarily... i've got a Victorian one to put up (Miss Moore will return one day though! ) And talking of the 80s i never left so you know i probably wouldn't even notice, but since i've just spent the afternoon watching the unofficial 80s music channel (VH1) i'll probably try and out dance you (and i never could dance!)
