I've been going through the coins I got from my grandfather. They had been stored in 2x2 cardboard. Many of them need to be replaced but one of the things I value about the collection is the writing on the outside of the 2x2 cardboards. This is where my grandfather documented the coin type, where he got it etc. and I'd really like to perserve that with the coin.

I was hoping to do this by using KoinTain Saftey Flips with 2 sides - one for the coin and one for the original holder. I was told by a dealer that they were not good for long term storage due to PVC. I was under the impression that saftey flips were PVC free.

    Any thoughts?

    khs -

If the product you are using is called Saflip ( not Safety Flip ) and it is manufactured by the Kointainer Company ( Kointain is just one of their products and different than the flips ) - then you have nothing to worry about. The dealer is mistaken.

But this dealer - if he is mistaken about that - what else may he be mistaken about ? Like coins maybe ??

Good call GDJMSP, if a dealer doesn't know the basics, how can he be a trusted adviser in numismatic issues? ~ Jim
