I don't have have many Ancients, but a few I really enjoy. My problem is corrosion. 2x2 flips seem to be promoting new corrosion on especially a Constans I have and was wondering how everyone else stores. I like direct fit capsules for copper or nickle but not familiar with what harm they can cause these oldie. Any suggestions? THX

Paper envelopes here too. I'm sure many of you have grown tired of me extolling their virtues - economical, archival safe, space saving, plenty of room to write detailed attributions, and dare I say, traditional and classy.

I hate those hard brittle saflips - they break too easily and it's difficult to remove coins from them.

    Wait a minute.

I've never heard of a 2x2 flips causing corrosion, even the ones high in PVC (which you want to avoid, but for other reasons). Something weird is going on with your coins. Might it be bronze disease? Or is it just simple toning? Can you show us a photo of what's happening to your coins to allay my fears and assure me it's not bronze disease?

I used the term corrosion for lack of a better word. A grayish powdery film began to fog the window of the 2x2 is why I was concerned. This example came to me in a clod 30 years ago and had to be separated and cleaned then. The film just began about a year ago.I have it folded in acid-free paper for the moment. I will be going to the bank today and will snag it and bring it home for photos . Thanks

I store, and carry with me everywhere I go, twenty of my very favorite Ancient coins in a “Shoulder Bag” (along with my ID cards, Credit cards and a few bucks). Coins are in archival quality paper envelopes together with accompanying attribution tags (tested for pH suitability) and, in turn, strips of three vinyl flips cut from standard commercial sheets. I write a brief generic coin description on the outside of each envelope so that I can quickly identify them.

My coins are well protected from the elements and I can easily get them out and fondle, admire and study them (a never ending process) whenever I want, and wherever I am.

I am not overly concerned about anyone cutting the strap on my shoulder bag and absconding with my coins, because the strap incorporates strands of tempered steel that resists all kinds of cutters - I had the clerk who sold it to me demonstrate that before I bought it.
