Since I started collecting, I have stored my coins in a modifiec fish tackle box. As I have accumulated more and more coins that have significant value, I find this form of storage inadequete, and am running out of room. Any suggestions for a new way of storage?

I have had similar problems with storage, and I would suggest 2x2 coin holders. They come in different sizes too.

Just make sure whatever you use has no PVC in it, it will ruin coins.

It occurs to me as I re-read these responses that I got that you guys are reccomending ways to store INDIVIDUAL coins. While I appreciate that you guys took the time to use your expertise in my aid, I think you misunderstood me. I am looking for suggestions on a way to store my entire collection. BTW, I prefer coin falps (PVC free) to store my individual coins, although I also have Coin World slabs along with regular slabs and 2X2 coin holders. Thanks for your help guys.

Ahhhh - now I understand. Read this thread from beginning to end, it's quite long. But just about every question that could be asked regarding coin storage has been asked and answered. Click Here

Well there are a variety of methods used - my preference is a nice large gun safe. Easy to open and lots of room to find stuff - plus lots of room for growth. Maybe a little fire proof sentry safe would work for you.

My Mother is a pretty heavy smoker. I don't smoke, and my coins are in my room where she doesn't go very often. Even so....should I be worried.

It depends on how you have them stored. If the coins are sealed up in quality holders it shouldn't matter.

As with many posts a complete explanation appears to be missing for accurate answers. For instance what is ment MY ENTIRE COLLECTION? An entire colection could be one Lincoln folder half full of cents or hundreds of rolls, hundreds or even thousands of 2x2's, many albums, numerous 3 ringed binders, show cases, etc. From one extreme to another.
For some a safe deposit box is adaquate. Others use a gun case big enough for rifles. Some have shelving units in a separate room in a house, others have just a massive bookcase in a basement.
Asking that question is almost as vague as asking which car is better without noting a size, country, engine, passangers, etc. Then we have all seen the numerous post on how to remove moisture from the air, how to wrap albums, suck out CO2, find Sulfur free paper, move to the desert, etc.
The main question back is what is the purpose of the storage. For short term, long term, very long term or extensive long term storage. If you want constant access to your collection the best thing is to just put them all in a book case with phony names on the books so no one knows there are coins in them.
If your intention is extensively long storage you may want to dig a hole in your back yard, put all your coins in a metal box, put the box in the hole, pour concrete over the box and make a patio out of it. :smile :smile

I've decided to get a safe for my more pricey coins, which clears up room in the tackle box for furthur expansion. Thanks for your help guys.
