Anyone watch it last night on A&E? Woman bought a unit that had a coin and currency collection in it. Some slabbed Morgans by NGC, some graded currency, and a cellowrap with 5 or 6 trade dollars, an ASE, and a couple of Peace dollars. Dealer that was appraising the collection, did the magnet test on the trade dollars, all counterfeit. I think he put the value of the authentic stuff around $2000.
:hammer:I do Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup Hester is scum!!and that being nice to edited there been a few find on the show 3-4 of coin-notes on 1st season very nice raw gem stone collection.
Brandi and Jarrod bought a locker with some coins in it awhile back and proffered them off on eBay - with their autographs. One does wonder how long it will be before Brandi proffers off Jarrod on eBay? He sure enjoys dissing her on the show.
i like the show and unfortunately missed it last night. some of the show looks set up like when darriel founnd money taped behind a picture frame. other than that its pretty good. cody
I saw it. My wife was reacting to me getting po'ed saying "maybe it was from a few years ago". I was reacting to them saying "proof coins" while showing common Peace dollars, etc. They really had the commentary and pictures messed up, talking about one coin but showing another, etc. I thought it weird the dealer was using a magnet to show how many were fakes. It made it seem if it wasn't attracted to a magnet a coin is not fake. Now another myth we have to live down from the general public. They could have at least shown other reasons why it was fake, and the magnet simply proves it without a doubt.
I saw this too. What I didn't understand was there seemed to be some dollars that were slabbed with grades in the 60s, and the dealer was appraising them at melt value. I don't collect slabbed coins but I'm pretty sure it should be much higher.
I've got it DVR'd. They have found coins several times on this show. It's amazing that people will lock up coins like this, then not pay the rent on the unit.
I noticed that too. Giving melt value for the graded ones. They should have gone thru the currency that was found too. It looked like there was a 29 national in there for a quick second. I am sure with all the active collectors here on CT we could start our own coin show and it would blow anything that is on t.v. out of the water.
He's an annoying puke, but he sees the big picture and of all of the units that you see, he makes the best decisions. Some of the junkie units that others pay for you can tell will never be anything. I liken it to coins. Hester is willing to step up and buy a nice VF Chain cent, while the others fight over piles of worn indian head cents and wheats desperately hoping for a 1877 or 1914d to pop up, and frequently losing that bet. If I were there bidding, I am sure I would be competing against the same units Hester buys, and leaving the junk units alone. I would hope my bid noise wouldn't be as annoying, though, and I wouldn't enjoy making enemies as much as he seems to.
Yea he had the morgans and peace dollar in the same packets right? what is not say those are fakes' as well. Chances are they were likely brought from the same source. Heck even the slabbed coins seemed suspect. IMO Hester is the only one out of four who actually seems to know what he is doing. Brandi and Jarrod are very lucky and most often Jarrod has no clue what the value of storage is before bidding and just wings it.
Saw it, the Peace dollar in the cello sleeve was obviously fake when they took a flash of the camera at it. I love it when they show coins on there...but we missed seeing Brandi last night. Hester's a jerk....but i love it when he says "Is that Daryl bidding???...Yuuuuuuppp!"
Oh my carp! I was doing the exact same thing! My wife told me to either calm down, or go start buying lockers myself. I told her we'd need a bigger shop, better fleece markets in our area, & a lot more "Spare time" LOL.
I think Dave H uses a rule of 3 to price hs "Merchandise", everything he quotes is three times what it should go for. $1000 for four chairs, $300 for a busted patio set with no table, LOL.
Most of the prices they quote is bs Barry is the only one who is honest with that, no one would pay that much and a bed set for 1000 seriously i can buy that brand new for half the price and side table chairs for $100 each lmao. But Hester did hit it big on some storage bids (like the storage with vending machines and books) .
The best episode about Barry is "Driving Miss Barry" - he brought his mother along and it is evident he didn't fall far from the apple tree - she is a character too.
