Thinking about using my refund this year to get a XF/AU 32-D Washington.

Of course, my local coin dealer has a set of AU/BU Franklins that are a thing of beauty for about the same money.....

    Woohoo! A new dilema!

Just kidding - getting stoked about the idea of a 32-D! That would be so purdy.

    buy the 32-D. That's a lay-up. Trust me, you won't regret it!

Fewer people collect Franklins than many other series and therefore they are not one of the more popular series. The Washington on the other hand, is a very popular series. More so now than prior to 1998. The 32-D is a key date and has steadily increased in value over the past 10 years. This is not to say that the trend will continue, but merely to say that the key date will usually have a stronger demand and therefore will almost always command a better price.

*sigh* I wish I still got a tax return, lol....I have to pay in to Uncle Sam since I'm self-employed.

I'm thinkin' most of us have to pay whether we're self employed or not!! ;) One of the pitfalls of the working class I guess. :D

No doubt I won't regret it, I've been looking forward to it! Been wanting tat coin a while now.

Think this is in the territory of only buying a certifed one?
A local flea market dealer has a couple nice choices, but should I trust my young (coin collecting) experience to gamble that they are genuine? Found a PCGS AU58 a little past my refund range, should I pony up the difference?

    Sorry manic.

  8. Buying that 32-D sounds like a good way of putting that refund back into the economy. Enjoy! TC

I remember when I used to get a tax refund -sigh. But, yeah, I'd go with the 32 D myself.

Here it is! Got it at a much better price than I was willing to pay. Expected to pay twice as much as I did.

Can some experts chime in on estimated grade?

And, can I send it off just to be authenticated without it being slabbed?

tax refund? isn't that an oxymoron? I pay enough for several people. well into six figures a year in taxes and I don't even get a kiss. I figure I employ a few of the local sheriffs so they can chase me around and give me tickets for speeding to help pay for another officer.

The Washington looks nice. I will wait for Speedy to chime in here. : ) Good choice. The Franlin set is pretty much bullion until you get up in the 63+ grades anyway.

I also work for myself also. I always hate having to file my taxes. :(
It only shows me how much of a check I have to write.

You pay six figures in TAXES???

Yikes... can't even imagine what sort of income commands a tax that high.

The funny thing is - I haven't even got the refund yet! I stumbled on to this while I was anticipating it. Now I can use it for a 32-S!

Agreed that that is one nice coin. So far no mention of how much so I suspect you don't want to say.

I was kind of hoping for some estimates on grade first, but I paid $390.

Then would this not be the time to buy them? When they're low and unpopular? ;) From a bullion stand point, the Franklin set is 12.6 ounces of silver. While the quarter is 0.18 of an oz. (If you have high hopes for silver.) Just looking at it from that point of view.

I understand the key date argument. :loud: Oh wait! I didn't say that....ummm... Yeah... The Franklins....they suck big time! Everyone should sell them all now. Especially the clean, spot free ones.

That's the key. Not that they're rare, but those,( certainly the early ones) are well above bullion and make a neat, flashy set. Depends on what he was looking at.

I have every intention of collecting Franklins next. Beyond the silver, they are just cool. But, I didn't want to spend the funds on a set of Franklins, just to end up still needing a 32-D & S. The Franklins aren't so far out of reach that I can still work on the set a couple of coins at a time. And now my Washington's are almost done!

What about the grade?!!! Will it make AU-55?

And, can I send this coin out to be authenticated only without slabbing it? I would hate to still see that hole in my Dansco, even if I did have it in a slab somewhere.
