Like all of us, I like the beautiful coins, beautiful photo of coins, and I also love a photo of compositions of coins something like "still life". Today I have made this one "archaic still life". What do you think? Please post your "....... still life"
Its a beautiful pick. I love seeing coins just put together for portrait gatherings. Sometimes they look better that way then what we normally do, single front/back only.
I don't have any 'still-life' or trays but I always thought they look phenomenal when placed together in contrast to their size, toning and denominations.
Great pic and photo composition. I am still learning to take pics that show well here. My compositions are done with one shot. A few cast pre-money and cast coins. Part of a Ramo Secco bar and some pre-money pieces. Pieces of an ax, a knife and bars. cast vs struck Asses. I like to see how the same coin looked vs time.
My still life is from the late 1850's (French) and shows a bracelet of Roman coins (Postumus, I believe) on the table at far left.
Here is a group of coins and artifacts I experimented with photographing on a sheet of black velvet. A Roman glass vase, a small Apulian red figure vase, and a random set of Greek coins I had at home at the time. It is hard to get all these different size and color objects in focus and lit right so they show up. I had to turn highlights way down to make the coins legible. I really like these combo pictures. This is a couple of my favorite Greek silver on a pile of random Greek bronzes. I like the different colors in the bronzes which makes the picture interesting. I usually take a random group of coins, put them in a coffee can, shake them up and pour them on the velvet. Then take some pictures. OK, just kidding, those were all carefully placed to avoid damage and to look artistically random. John
British Museum 'Still Life'. It has been my desktop background for many years. My laptop has this BM background image:
Get your caligulae on Marcus! I have a fist full of antoninianii and we are heading to town to look for trouble while we can still say antoninianii! John
I posted this recently but here it is again-- a photoshopped composite of many coins. I've added some great coins since this collage. Maybe it's time to add more to the virtual pile
Nice desktop Orfew! Mine is water meets aluminum alkyl from a safety demo at work. You do not want to stand behind a nervous person at this point in the demo.
