Well I am still out there buying random coins that I find pleasing in some way when I find them. Here are three recent purchases. None have a decent excuse for purchase other than they were there. I thought it was a well executed portrait and couldn't remember seeing one of these in hand before. Licinius II - AE3 Obv:– VAL LICINIVS NOB CAES, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right Rev:– IOVI CONSERVATORI, Jupiter standing left, holding thunderbolt and sceptre, chlamys spread across both shoulders Minted in Arles (//T Star in Crescent A.) Reference:– RIC VII Arles 160 (R3) I have always like these Votives. Constantius II - AE3 Obv:– CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust, right Rev:– CAESARVM NOSTRORVM, VOT / • / V Minted in Rome (//RS). Reference:– RIC VII Rome 236 And yet another Fallen horseman Constantius Gallus - AE3 Obv:– DN CONSTANTIVS IVN NOB C, Bare, bust draped and cuirassed right Rev:– FEL TEMP REPARATIO, Soldier spearing fallen horseman, who is wearing a Phrygian cap, reaching backwards Minted in Siscia (// ASIS), Reference:– RIC VIII Siscia 351 I had promised myself that I would develop some discipline and focus. The evidence thus far this year is that my eclectic acquisition of random coins continues. Martin
atta boy, Martin => three more winners to toss onto the massive pile of LRB winners!! (somebody call Guinness!!)
Those are very pleasing indeed. I particularly like the extra effort on the part of the engraver of the Licinius II to give Jupiter a detailed, flowing chlamys.
I find all three to be very attractive specimens! Sometimes that's all the excuse you need. This one arrived a few days ago. I had no good reason to buy it either, but it was just sitting there and nobody else seemed to want it.
Story of my collecting life . That makes me coin rich, cash poor as I am spread out too far in the timeline and area
My 'focus' remains a bit blurred as well LOL Every coin posted would have tempted me for one reason or another....especially since they ALL have wonderful eye-appeal!!!
