What exactly would you call these two type error's? Are they common? Should I get them certified and graded?
Item #1: is either a die crack or post mint damage, it is hard to tell from that angle; #2: again is either post mint damage, or a repunched mint mark, and possibly inverted. However, since there are no reports of that as I variety, that I have seen, and this would have made BIG news since 1989 and is likely to have been found before, (since it is very obvious) I would tend toward the post mint damage. As far as certifying, NO! Save your money. IF the second is really what it looks like, then, perhaps it would be worth it, but not likely. Good luck. Frank
On the first coin are we looking at the 1 of the date? If so it does look like a die chip. On the 1989D this is common. It has something to do with the copper plating. You will find this on most cents in some fashion or another from 1983 till present. By the way, welcome to Coin Talk coinic. We're glad you're here.:thumb: Happy hunting, Michael
