I have an 2001 11 piece silver proof set where the Vermont quarter has a strikethrough error on the "N" portion in "VERMONT" Is there a known lot where this error occured? Thanks much...
Can you post another picture of the area of the possible Strike Through Error and of "VERMONT"? From what little I can make out from the picture, it appears to be spread on some of the lettering due to Die Deterioration. Frank
stirkethrough error The rest of the coin looks great. It's just the "N" is smashed. I had a devil of a time producing a photo that shows "clear" detail. I think there's light reflection on some of the lettering that gives the false impression. Anyway, I'm surprised this would slip through quality assurance given it's a silver proof. I may have to borrow my daughter's camera to obtain better resolution. -Larry
strikethrough error Thanks. If it actually hurts the value I'll ask the coin dealer to replace. He said he would but thought I was ahead by having the error. I have heard that die errors are common. I paid $170.00 for the 2001 silver set.
It's not that it hurts the value, but it certainly doesn't help it any. There are some error and variety collectors who would find this coin appealing and may pay a tiny bit more for it. But to the average collector - it does nothing.
