Status of 1877 half union copper pattern?

    Just a short question, where might I go if I wanted to look at the Half Union 1877 $50 pattern coin in copper. I know it survived, just not sure where or how.

    If this coin had been produced, it would easily be a collector favorite in my opinion.

    If you want to see one in person, the Smithsonian and Connecticut State Library have examples. Or you could visit the ANA Money Museum in Colorado Springs and see the example from Harry Bass collection.

    That would be the one, just another reason to visit the Smithsonian

    Should have mentioned it previously, but the Smithsonian rarely has the coins on display. You might wait decades before it came out of the basement.

    Best bet is the ANA Museum.

    By the way, a forum member owns that coin.

    Shhh!! I told you I don't want to openly advertise this! Now I have to find a better hiding spot then my desk drawer.
