I have these two quarters, 2007 P - Utah, and, 1999 P - Delaware. I am curious about this type of "error" when extra metal fills the areas in the lettering. On the '99, the "D" is nearly completely filled, and the "N", and "R" are as well compromised (also has a die crack on obverse, lower neckline) IMG_3124.JPG IMG_3120.JPG IMG_3288.JPG IMG_3287.JPG IMG_3297.JPG . On the '07, the lower slope of the "B" is filled. What causes this to happen? Are they considered error coins?

    Chipped dies. Common.

So I take it a chipped die behaves differently than a cracked die.....

A chip is essentially a hole in the die.

Plus I think I see a die crack between the C and A in CAESAR and on Washington's neck/shoulder over the engravers initials.

When you are looking for a crack don't confuse it with a hole!
