Since 1999, i take every state quarter i find and put it aside. Idont go out of my way to obtain any, but i have still collected quite a few. I thought it wouldbe fun to look through them for any errors or varieties that might be out there. Is there a book or website that might list everything? I am not looking only for the ones that will bring me a huge payback. im not looking to find anything to sell. Quite the opposite, i am loking to find some to keep i dont have any coin errors I know of a few of the errors or 'extra' this or that that have been found over the years, but i am in not error type collector, so dont usually hear of the latest breaking news Any help would be, well .. helpfull Thanks!
Here's a few sites that you might try to help I.D. your error's. http://www.varietyvista.com/Split%20Image.htm http://www.doubleddie.com/12201.html http://koinpro.tripod.com/
the varietyvista link above, on that page, there are 12 errors listed for 5 states. Are those the only state quarters to have errros so far found on them? or are there more state quarters with errors? if so, is there possible a place that lists all the state quarters that have errors?
There are more then what is listed on the website. There are quite a few double earlobe State Quarters that have not been listed on the site yet. Dave
According to Coin World, every state up to 2007 has had error coins. I'm sure 2008 has some too, they just haven't been spotted yet. Guy~
I do believe we could find errors on each date quarter if those studying them would post their results. If we could amass a list of all errors found we'd at least have somewhere to start looking for them. Lets cooperate. Bruce
As usual an impossible question. There are over 60 different doubled dies on the Minnesota quarters alone. A listing of ALL of the state quarter errors and varieties would probably run to thousands of entries. We need to forget about the state quarter part of it and just concentrate on one thing. Can you recognize an error when you see one? If you can then you don't need a list, you just need to examine the coins and see if you recognize anything that is an error. Cracks, cuds, chips, clips, multiple strikes, partial collars, off-centers, missing clad layers, doubled dies etc etc etc.
I am not quite sure why you think it is a 'usual impossible question!' What makes you think its impossible? Just because you dont know, doesnt make it impossible. The sheer number of issues coming out of the State Quarter program are what prompted me to ask if there was such a list or otherwise pubished information. Because there are such quantities, i would have thought a book on the subject would have either been done or in the works. I wouldnt have thought to ask if only a single error had been discovered. THAT to me is what wouldnt have made sense. can i tell you what most of the errors you mentioned are... possibly most of them ... can i look at a coin in hand and immediately be able to tell that yes the coin has an error and yes i know exactly what the error is... im not sure. But it would be my guess, no. This is why i asked such the seemingly impossible question. A guide to whats out there would be much easier then blazing my own trail. A guide for what to look for against what was already found. Maybe i didnt think there were 'thousands', but i knew minnesaota alone had a bunch, and that other quarters also had there share. Again, i dont know the full extent of whats out there, which again prompted the question. ok, so i am done explaning what didnt need explaining. But additudes should be left checked at the door upon entry!
Sorry wasn't an attitude, I said impossible because your request is very similar to ones which are frequently posted where the person wants a list of every error known for each issue. Not categories, but every different error, every die chip, every crack etc. That's what is impossible, or maybe I should have just said not practical. I couldn't possibly list them all, and the person asking for it couldn't possibly really use it. They aren't going to memorize it so they can use it mentally, and they aren't going to take each coin and compare it item by item for the particular issue to see if it matches one of the listings. Instead they will or need to learn how to recognize the different type or categories of errors so they can recognize that they have an error when they run across one (I'm speaking generally here not directing it at you specifically.). And if they can do that, does it really matter if it is on some huge list? If it's an error it's an error.
my appologies for jumping ship to quickly Yes, the way you put it i would agree that for someoneto list them all in this thread would be impossible. But books have been written with less of a subject field. If a book hasnt been written to cover them all, just give the publishers some time... i am sure they will jump on it eventually. I agree a it would be much better for me to actually learn each type of error, what to look for and where ect. But i am not a error type collector. While i do find them fascinating, i have little patience to look through thousands of coin in the hopes of finding the 1... if that many. My hat is off to those who can lol I just thought it might be neat to look at the types of errors already found, and go from there. I mean, i dont really need to see an image of every single minnesota quarter with an extra branch .. or two... or three. If such a place doesnt exist yet that shows something like that... like i said - give them time for now.. i can use the coneca website - i love the different shots they give for the errors they show. on some, however, it would be nice to have the error in question circled.. some of them i just cant tell lol
