My grandpa and I collected wheat pennies when he was alive. Now that only the 1909 s vdb is left, I thought that I would hop on the type set band wagon! After seeing all of the Dansco 7070s bought, I picked up one on ebay as well. I am a novice collector, but I really liked the couple of coins that I picked up today. What do you think that they would grade? I went in thinking I would pick up a flying eagle cent and a trime to start my set (they are my two favorite). But I really liked this 2 cent piece: And to stay within my budget and add another piece, I found this Mercury dime. I thought that it was neat that it has a die crack (I think?) above the hair. I never knew what that was until I joined this forum! I'm having fun already with this type set! I think it will be a fun, but slow, adventure. I know the pics aren't great, but thank you for any feedback you might have! Chris
Album coins shouldn't be high grade or high value, that's how you lose a lot of their value in general
VF-35 and MS-63. Type sets are great. I've been working on a proof type set for twenty five years now, but I'm as far as I'll ever get without winning the lottery. My advice for a type set is to choose a grade that your budget can handle to complete the whole set and just stick with that grade. I like my collections to match, either all toned, all uncirculated, all red, or all circulated. Having one or two flashy coins in an album seems to take away from the circulated coins. I think the two cent piece would be a really nice starting point, trying to do a mint state 7070 would be daunting to say the least. Post your others as you get them, I'd like to see your progress.
I'm not sure what you mean by this statement. A high value/high grade coin in an album doesn't lose its value because it's in an album. It can be removed from the album and slabbed if need be.
