I am sure there has been many of these questions BUT, all these older designs and star notes( some worn and torn) but some nearly uncirculated, should I keep them? I don't collect bills but are they too good to be spent? Can anyone point me to an older thread, Thanks Henry
Use the Search feature at the top of each page, in the drop down select Advanced Search, there you can narrow your search to the Paper Money section and run a keyword search. There are many past threads about star notes as you guessed. As for posting photos, if they are as worn and torn as you say, I wouldn't bother all the work of scanning or photos, uploads to Photobucket and posting to the threads. You would post the Series date and SN of each note in text then we can give you further pointers. Also, search completed auctions on eBay as well as search the Auction Archives at Heritage Auctions where you can set up a free account and learn what notes are selling for in various grades.
Too many to photograph. I just go to the bank and there are tons of them. I get them everyweek. its taking up a lot of cash though. thats why i am asking
Like anything the more rare something is the more it is worth. If your finding tons then they are gonna be worth less. You can get a book that show's the print runs and see their value but I keep the higher grade ones and smaller denom's as it's cheaper.
You can look here to see run size. Small number is better! http://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars The better suggestion is to pick up a copy of: Standard Guide to Small-Size U.S. Paper Money - 1928-Date by John Schwartz and Scott Lindquist Good Luck
I would just give us the date (with series letter), denomination, serial number, and the very small number on the back.
I was just going to ask the same thing. Ever since I got my first $10 a few weeks ago, the wife and I have been scanning all the cash we come across. She goes through the cash at work looking for them. She found a $5 last week and brought home a Series 2004 $50 today! No holes or tears but not crisp. Has some creases. 3.2 million run. It's hard to let them go but I'm beginning to wonder how much we're going to run across. I read that less than 1% of circulating currency are star notes so I don't know if we've just been lucky or if it's not as hard to find them as I thought it would be? I'm going to keep saving them for a while though. We'll see. What do you guys do? Save them all?
Star notes in themselves may not hold a high premium as some runs Have a extremely high printings and then there,s the condition which Is always something to consider, The bank note reporter has a star Section in it which gives up to date values, just google them for there Address!
